Safety

Each mission is backed by a team of pilots, maintenance technicians, and support crews that receive continuous training in their fields of expertise. This ongoing education includes state-of-the-art flight simulator training and detailed emergency procedures instruction.

Era maintenance crews are continually trained to meet the high standards of Era, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and numerous aircraft manufacturer training programs. Era utilizes advanced diagnostic techniques, a comprehensive computerized inventory program for spare parts, and a sophisticated record-keeping system. Era employs the best trained maintenance crews to ensure the Era fleet is in the finest mechanical condition.

Era is one of the first helicopter companies to introduce HUMS into its fleet. An acronym which stands for Health and Usage Monitoring Systems, the HUMS program focuses on vibration monitoring in flight to identify the early stages of component degradation. This enhanced management of aircraft vibration is reported to decrease avionics failures and even crew fatigue, enhancing the overall safety of operations.

Utilized by the airline industry for more than 20 years to routinely collect and analyze data recorded during flight, Era is the first civil helicopter company to take Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) technology into its entire fleet. FOQA is a proven tool in improving flight safety and increasing overall operational efficiency.

Era also owns and maintains modern offshore and onshore fuel facilities with updated dual filtering systems, which ensure clean quality fuel, “go/no-go” monitoring, spill containment and emergency automatic shut-off fuel systems. Fuel quality is checked and logged daily at each fuel facility. The quality of bulk fuel is also checked both at the supplier and again prior to its transfer into Era fuel facilities.

Era’s management philosophy was founded on an unwavering commitment to safety excellence in every aspect of its operations. In January 2005, Era adopted a Safety Management System (SMS), which focuses on safety training, evaluation, and communications.
